Oliebollen are the well known Dutch doughnuts. Dutchies wait all year to enjoy them on at New Years. Every family has their own particular spin on them… some only add raisons; others must have raisons and currants. Our family always include apple pieces from nice red rosy apples. I leave the skin on for the colour. Technically that turns the into apple fritters but we still call them oliebollen. Including a beaten egg as part of the 250 ml of wet ingredients helps make the batter more resistant to the oil.
