There was a day when most Dutch homes had a “snijbonen molen”. This was a special mill that one fed green beans into to slice them. We have one on display at The Pantry if you are curious. I remember a particularly plentiful bean harvest one year when I and my siblings spent quite a few days turning the handle of my mother’s mill. Since child labour was outlawed a long time ago, people usually choose to buy their beans already cut. Hak has been processing beans this way for many years.
