Capucijners by Coroos

Capucijners are marrowfat peas. When picked they look like regular green peas but turn grey brown when cooked. The story goes that they received their name from an order of monks called capucines because their grey colour reminded people of the robes these monks wore.  When dried these beans have great keeping capabilities so they became a staple for the long ocean trips of the seafaring Dutch.Their texture is starchier than what you would expect from either beans or peas. They are still served with bacon, potatoes, sausage or meatballs and pickles like they have been for centuries as what was called “The Captain’s Dinner”.   However, they can also be added to salads or served with molasses and bacon. 796 ml tin

Our online store is set up to allow you to browse our European Pantry shelves from the comfort of your home. It also enables you to pre-order and make arrangements for pick-up or drop-off in our delivery areas. We strive to keep the prices listed on our online store current but as a small retailer it is impossible for us to be 100% accurate for the 1000+ products we list. Furthermore, package weight variations for meat and cheese products make it impossible to provide accurate fixed prices.

Therefore, as you shop your “total order” will be an APPROXIMATE total. After you submit your order, we will communicate any changes in pricing as well as the actual prices of weighed items. You will then be able to confirm your order and arrange payment. Thank you for shopping with us! We hope it is a pleasant experience. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about our products or our ordering process.
