Absolutely Organic: Peppercorns and mixes

At one time Pepper was so valuable that is was used as a currency, like gold. Today while pepper is no longer such an expensive commodity, it is still valued for the pungent spiciness it adds to food.  Black pepper berries come from Piper nigrum, a woody, climbing vine and grow in spike-like clusters. Immature berries turn black after they are harvested, fermented and dried. Green peppercorns also are made from immature berries but they are prepared by freeze drying them to retain their natural green colour.  As the berries ripen they turn white and become milder in flavour. White pepper is especially useful in white sauces when the pepper is not supposed to show!  Piper nigrum comes from the Indian subcontinent. Pink “pepper” comes from a totally different plant and from the other side of the world.  Schinus molle grows in Peru and is known as the Peruvian Peppertree. These berries are far more expensive than those of the Piper nigrum.

• Black Pepper: fine ground in 47 gm shaker. We also carry coarse ground black pepper that we sell by weight.
• Peppercorn: 4 pepper blend of Black, White, Green and Red berries.  45 gm
• Lemon Pepper Seasoning: contains Lemon peel, pepper, onion, garlic , anise and citric acid. Drizzle olive oil over vegetables and sprinkle this blend on top. 65 gm
