My father had an expression, “Hunger is the best sauce.” There is wisdom in that and he spoke from the experience of surviving “The Hunger Winter” of 1944-45 in Holland. However, few of us would wish to test that saying.  Nevertheless, we would all agree that a good sauce can elevate a dish to a higher level of delicious.
