Van Delft Kruidnootjes
Kruidnoten translates from Dutch to spice nuts. In German they are known as pfeffernusse which translates as pepper nuts. For anglophones, these are gingerbread cookies. All northern European cultures include some form of gingerbread as part of Christmas festivities. For the Dutch these little ginger cookies are traditionally thrown by St Nicholas when he arrives for his feast day, the evening of December 5. Many people have memories of a door being opened, a white gloved hand appearing and throwing fistfuls of kruidnoten toward waiting children! Available in 200 gm and 500 gm packages. Look for the cheerful face of St. Nicholas on the blue bag!
